Federalism is a political concept in which a group of
members are bound together by covenant with a governing representative head.
The term "federalism" is also used to describe a system of the government in which sovereignty is constitutionally divided between a central
governing authority and constituent political units (like states or provinces).
Federalism is a system based upon democratic rules and institutions in which the
power to govern is shared between national and provincial/state governments,
creating what is often called a federation. Proponents are often called federalists.
Anyone who knows me knows I didn't write the above statement but I learned about it last night at the Lincoln day dinner in Vernal. Senator Mike Lee was the key note speaker. He was a very good speaker and it was our first time hearing him speak in person. It was a very good night. We also heard from Senator Orin Hatch, Governor Gary Herbert and Representative Rob Bishop. They all talked about federalism, public lands, the budget and Obama Care.
Joni Crane (far left of picture) is the Uintah County GOP. She is awesome. Before we left she told us about the history of the the American creed. She asked all of us to read it aloud together before we left. It was powerful. Joni's son (standing to the right with all the children) learned with his class this year the Gettysburg Addresss. Their teacher Kay Labrum felt it important for them to know it and their rights. When his mom learned of it she asked if they would recite it for the dinner. It was so AWESOME!
It made me cry.
I believe in the United States of America, as a
government of the people, by
the people, for the people;
whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in
a republic; a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect union, one
and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality,
justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and
fortunes.
I
therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its
Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against
all enemies.

This is not a great picture of Senator Lee above but it was all I could get from my seat. Here is one of him and Matt last year when he was put in office. We went up and spoke to him after and introduced ourselves. He said how much he appreciated Matt on his staff. He said if all his staff were like Matt it would be great. He also said Matt and Raquel were a super couple and he really enjoyed them. We thanked him for giving Matt a chance at his dream. We are proud of Matt for going after his dream and serving our country in up holding the constitution. Thank you son! Kudos to his parents for raising a willing spirit.
Senator Lee asked all of us to learn our rights. He asked us to read the Constitution here and demand our rights. I have to say I don't know much about it but I am committed to learn.
